slash and burn...

tonight as i was listening to a special on architecture on npr i was struck by a the commants of an architect who specialized in housing for displaced people in disaster area (be it natural or human inflicted). as he spoke about the beginning of his work during the conflict in serbia i was struck and moved to tears. the habit of slaughtering a family or larger group and then utterly destroying the evidence of their existance was called (i think) slash and burn. the goal being to totally remove any sense of their presence in the world. this made me rememeber the command given to the israelites to utterly destroy the nations they conquored. it grieves my heart to realize that this horrible and evil practice could be traced back to and justified with bad theological understanding as a current command of God. Here is a link to the site of this organization. check them out they are incredible.
